A power that is stronger than any other, colors that are brighter than anything you have ever seen before. This book features a story about a group of kids who are spirited away to the magical world of "Neverwas" to help save their families and friends. There's adventure, laughter, and powerful friendships galore! This is the first in the Carry On series by Rainbow Rowell. The books in this series are considered Young Adult fiction, for readers ages 12-18 years old. It was published on July 28th 2013 by St. Martin's Press. Reviews of this book were extremely positive, with many comparing "Carry On" to other popular series such as Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. Some critics claimed the book was too similar to Harry Potter, but others argued that this was a compliment and should be taken as such. Many critics praised the story for its originality and creativity, as well as the interesting plot twists and turns. They also appreciated that Rowell had woven together different genres into one story: urban fantasy, paranormal romance (the first few books in the series anyway), comedy, adventure/questing, and even a little time travel by way of flashbacks. Many people also praised the book's lack of unnecessary romance, which is often found in many Young Adult novels. Many fans of this series believe that it will continue to grow and develop over its ten-year span of publication. This may make these books more interesting, entertaining, even more beloved. One commenter argued that you will never get bored with "Carry On", because the story constantly develops and grows. The young adult readers are also glad to see Rowell avoiding formulaic writing in her books, instead choosing to write them based on where she wants the reader to go next with the story. The reader is not tied down by characters who are predictable and boring, but instead is confused, engaged, and intrigued by the character's actions. Rowell herself also has said that she has not yet determined the ending of the series, which was originally planned to be one book. She has said that her goal is to keep writing for as long as possible so that no reader will ever be bored with these books. A new character was introduced in this book called Merganser. Merganser is Merga's favorite bird and Tammi's favorite animal. Merganser is a sea eagle, although the Neverwas have no oceans. Merganser has been trained to fetch and carry things from place to place for Merga. The Neverwas sea eagles live in the Neverwas Mountains' deep forests and valleys. They are massive birds that get their names from the fact they are incredibly fast fliers. They are also smart creatures who have been known to plan very carefully before attacking their enemy with speed and power. This book is one of the most popular titles in the Carry On series, along with being Rowell's personal favorite out of all of her books so far. 8eeb4e9f32 43
